The United States is aware of the UAV attack on the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant and is calling on the Russian Federation to return the facility to Ukrainian control.
This was announced by State Department spokesman Matthew Miller at a briefing.
He noted that the US continues to monitor the situation at the station, particularly through official IAEA reports, which fortunately state that the damage caused by the UAV strike did not jeopardize nuclear safety.
– Russia is playing a very dangerous game with the military capture of the Ukrainian nuclear power plant, which is the largest in Europe, – Miller emphasized.
The State Department spokesman added that the US continues to call on Russia to withdraw its military and civilian personnel from the NPP, return full control of the plant to the competent Ukrainian authorities, and refrain from any actions that could lead to a nuclear incident at the plant.
The situation at the ZNNP
On the afternoon of April 7, the International Atomic Energy Agency announced the detonation of a drone on the territory of the occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP.
Later, it was clarified that there were at least three direct hits to the main structures of the reactor protective shell on the territory of the ZNPP.
At the same time, according to the IAEA, no signs of damage to critical nuclear safety systems at the site were found.
