The purpose of Blinken’s visit to Ukraine
According to Zelenskyy, one of the goals of the US Secretary of State’s visit to Kyiv is to provide $2 billion in aid to Ukraine and to offer US security guarantees.
– What is his goal? First, a $2 billion package. Secondly, proposals from the United States on security guarantees. We already have a draft of the Security Assurances Treaty. Third, we discussed our vision for the NATO Summit. They heard our vision, accepted this information and will return with feedback,” Zelenskyy said.
The Head of State stressed that the main issue was air defence.
– At what stage is the dialogue with a particular country that has the relevant systems. Where do we see them, where do our partners see them, when can it be and what needs to be done,” the President of Ukraine said.
As a reminder, on 14 May, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken arrived in Ukraine on an unannounced visit. During the visit, he said that Washington would provide Kyiv with an additional $2bn in military aid for Ukraine.
During his visit, Blinken and Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba held the first round of talks at a pizzeria opened by veterans of the Russian-Ukrainian war. In the evening, he visited a Kyiv bar where he played guitar with the 19.99 band, performing Neil Young’s Rockin’ In The Free World.
