Defense forces shot down a Russian Su-25 attack aircraft in Donetsk region – General Staff
During the day of May 22, the number of attacks by Russian occupiers in the Pokrovsky direction in Donetsk region increased to 25.
However, the Defense Forces managed to repulse the enemy’s blows, as well as destroy another Russian Su-25 attack aircraft.
— In the Pokrovsky direction, the enemy is trying to penetrate our battle formations with assault groups and equipment. The situation remains tense – nine combat clashes are still ongoing, – it is stated in the summary of the General Staff.
Su-25 attack aircraft – characteristics
The Russian Su-25 aircraft is designed to support ground forces over the battlefield in direct visibility of the target, as well as to destroy objects around the clock in any weather conditions.
The Su-25 is equipped with a powerful set of weapons – air guns, air bombs of various calibers and purposes, guided and unguided air-to-ground missiles, and air-to-air guided missiles.
A total of 32 types of weapons can be mounted on an attack aircraft.
In general, this is a highly protected aircraft, the combat survivability systems account for 7.2% of the normal take-off weight or 1050 kg.
