Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez signed a bilateral security agreement.

Zelensky’s visit to Madrid
Today, May 27, the head of state flew to Madrid for negotiations with Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and the signing of a security agreement between Ukraine and Spain. This is Volodymyr Zelensky’s first official visit to this country.
Zelenskyy and Sanchez signed the agreements in front of journalists.
– Spain is betting on the security of Ukraine in the face of Putin’s military aggression. We have now signed a political agreement, which has an important role. This contract is about the future. And this is an example of our determination to provide Ukraine with all the tools to ensure its stability, – emphasized Pedro Sanchez.
Security agreement with Ukraine
According to the Prime Minister, Spain has already become the tenth country to sign a security agreement with Ukraine.
The security agreement covers the topics of demining, restoration and reconstruction of Ukraine, as well as the financial and military spheres, etc.
Pedro Sánchez noted that Spain has supported Ukraine for two years and undertakes to provide assistance worth more than one billion euros.
In addition, the Spanish Prime Minister noted that his country will participate in the reconstruction summit to be held in Berlin. According to Sanchez, the government will invite public and private enterprises to cooperate.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in turn, thanked Spain for its support to Ukraine, especially for air defense systems and missiles for them.
Security agreement details
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that in 2024 Spain will provide 1 billion euros in military aid. In addition, the country makes a significant contribution to the financing of the European Peace Fund, which is an additional 5 billion euros for the period until 2027.
