Latvia supports Ukraine’s strikes with Western weapons against targets on the territory of the Russian Federation

Latvia advocates for Ukraine to lift restrictions on the use of Western weapons for strikes against Russia and calls on NATO allies to grant such permission to the Ukrainian military.
This was stated by Latvian President Edgars Rinkevičs in an interview with CNN.
Latvia supports strikes with Western weapons against Russia
According to Rinkevichs, the offensive of the Russian army in the north of the Kharkiv region is a consequence of the fact that Russia was able to transfer its economy to military rails and is engaged in mobilization. But this offensive also became possible due to the mistakes of NATO allies, who are hesitant to respond to hostilities and slow to provide support to Ukraine.
– What we are seeing is the result of our inability to provide Ukraine with enough weapons and the imposition of restrictions on how Ukraine can use them – for strikes on the territory of Russia. This is not about civilians, but about legitimate military goals,- he said.
Edgars Rinkevičs fully agrees with the words of NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg that it is time for NATO member states to review their restrictions on the use of weapons provided by Ukraine.
The use of Western weapons for attacks on the Russian Federation
Earlier, a number of Ukraine’s European allies, including Great Britain, Sweden and Poland , said Ukraine could use their weapons without restrictions imposed by the United States.
Also, after the start of the Russian offensive north of Kharkiv, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg also joined this debate and defended Ukraine’s right to use Western weapons against targets in Russia.
It is noteworthy that after Congress pressured the White House and the US government, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken also, according to the press, plans to prepare a corresponding permit for Ukraine, however, not without a number of restrictions.
On the other side is German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who said on May 26 that he opposes such strikes by German weapons.
