– “The agreement contains provisions for advanced defence systems such as Patriot and fighter squadrons – that’s right, in the plural, squadrons – including, but not limited to, F-16s,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy stressed.

The document itself, which was published on the website of the Office of the President of Ukraine, states that the United States commits to coordinate with Ukraine and work primarily “through an allied consortium to modernise the Air Force of Ukraine, including the procurement of squadrons of modern fighter aircraft, sustainment, weapons, and related training to support the capabilities of fourth-generation fighter aircraft (including, but not limited to, F-16 multi-role aircraft).” It also refers to other airspace capabilities, such as transport and reconnaissance, surveillance and intelligence platforms, including unmanned aerial vehicles.

In addition, according to the President, the document contains “a detailed, legally binding part that guarantees the reliability of America’s support for our independence”.

– The US security commitments are based on sustained support for security and defence during this war and for the period of peace after it. We will ensure peace,” he said.

The Head of State added that the agreement clearly states that “America supports Ukraine’s efforts to achieve victory in this war.”

Earlier, Presidents Joe Biden and Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a 10-year security agreement between Ukraine and the United States.

Before that, Zelenskyy signed a similar agreement with the Prime Minister of Japan.
