Zelenskyу: 14 brigades of the Armed Forces are still not equipped to go on a counteroffensive
The Armed Forces of Ukraine have formed 14 counteroffensive brigades, but they are still not manned, as the weapons voted for by the US Congress are arriving very slowly.
This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyу in an interview with Bloomberg TV.
Zelenskyу explained why the Armed Forces of Ukraine cannot go on a counteroffensive yet
– We have the desire, but the tools have not arrived, as they say. That is, we have brigades without weapons, we have reserves, we have 14 undermanned brigades that do not have the appropriate weapons. Weapons that have already been voted on in Congress. The packages should arrive, but unfortunately, the packages go slowly, – he emphasized.
According to him, the Defense Forces will be ready for a counteroffensive when the weapons arrive, and they are not available today.
– And I don’t know the graphics, no one does, unfortunately. And this is the biggest tragedy of this war. The time between the decision and the actual fact is very long. That is why the Russians know what to do. They know that there will be a counteroffensive, because the preparations have been going on for too long, – Zelenskyy explained.
As for the number of personnel needed to conduct hostilities, the head of state noted that it is difficult to talk about it.
– But, as of today, the situation is much better than it was in the previous three months. And that’s why I said that the number one thing right now is weapons. The weapons should already arrive – concluded Zelenskyу.
Earlier, analysts of the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) said that the Defense Forces of Ukraine are forming several new brigades , but the late and insufficient supply of weapons from the West is likely to prevent them from being fully equipped.
In their opinion, it depends on this when and on what scale Ukrainian forces will be able to seize the initiative on the battlefield and conduct a powerful counteroffensive operation.
