Ukraine is ready to cooperate with Republican Donald Trump if he wins the presidential elections in the United States.
This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during a press conference on July 15.
Ukraine’s relations with Trump
According to the Ukrainian leader, it is too early to talk about Trump’s presidency until the election process in the United States is over.
Regarding Trump’s plan to end the Russian-Ukrainian war, Zelenskyy said that the “general things” in this plan are “understood” by him.
– If Donald Trump becomes president, we will work. I’m not afraid of that. Ukraine is at war, we are emotional, and, indeed, when there is uncertainty, then… The Republican Party is different: there are hawks there, whose statements are more right-wing or more radical, for sure. But the majority of the Republican Party supports the people of Ukraine, – he said.
Relations between Ukraine and the Republican Party
He also assured that Ukraine has “strong relations” with the Republican Party, in particular with its part that is in both houses of the US Congress.
– I met with Republican governors during the NATO summit. In Utah, I had a meeting with a lot of governors who are Republicans. They treat Ukraine, the Ukrainian people, our soldiers, and me with great respect. I see that we will develop the relevant relations regardless of the results of the US elections in November. That’s why I don’t see any big threats here, – he says.
It will be recalled that the US presidential elections, as well as the election of members of the US Congress, are scheduled for November 5.
After the election of a new president in the United States, there is a buffer period during which power is transferred from one former president to the next. If the current president, Joe Biden, wins, then the team of the head of the White House may be renewed.
