The Russian-Ukrainian war can be brought to a just end by force of arms and diplomacy.
This was stated by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during the fourth summit of the European Political Community, which is taking place in the United Kingdom.
The power of arms against Russia
– We can bring this war to a just conclusion with the power of our weapons and our diplomacy, and we should not be afraid of these possibilities. The more effective our air defense is, the more helpless Putin will be. The fewer restrictions we have on the use of effective weapons, the more Russia will seek peace,” he said.
The Head of State emphasized that Russian military airfields from which Russian planes with bombs take off against Ukrainian cities, as well as missile launch sites of the Russian army, “all this must be destroyed.
– This will not only eliminate some targets, but also reduce Russia’s ability to continue the war,” the president said.
Collective efforts
Volodymyr Zelenskyy added that missiles and drones alone cannot be “carriers of state sovereignty,” as collective will is also needed to destroy them. The same thing happened with Iranian missiles and drones during the attack on Israel.
– Anything that adds to our collective strength helps bring peace closer. And I thank all of you for supporting the launch of negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the EU. It proved that even in the most difficult circumstances, the EU can keep its promises, and it gave Ukraine moral strength. People who are fighting for Ukraine and for Europe should feel that Europe is getting closer. And I would also like to thank those of you who have steadfastly supported Ukraine on its path to NATO. Although 32 NATO member states have not yet reached an agreement on Ukraine’s membership, we have ensured that the complete elimination of this security deficit in Europe through Ukraine’s accession to NATO has become irreversible,” he said.
The Head of State added that the most important thing that Ukraine and the West should collectively do is to hold peace summits.
– “We are now preparing for the second Peace Summit, and working groups on the points of the Peace Formula will soon start working. These are energy security, food security, and a humanitarian group that will deal with the release of prisoners and the return of deportees. Over time, other groups will appear,” he said.
The President also asked all those present to support these efforts and join the joint work, as well as to choose those points of the Peace Formula where the partner countries will be able to show their leadership.
– And please – this is very important – convince your partners around the world that they must also be brave despite threats and blackmail – their joint efforts are needed for peace. When the aggressor loses, the world wins. This has happened many times in the history of mankind. It should happen this time with Russian aggression.
As a reminder, on July 18, the President of Ukraine arrived at the summit of the European Political Community in the UK. There, he announced the signing of an intergovernmental agreement to support the Ukrainian defense industry.
