Czech Defense Minister Jana Černohová said that her country will launch a new initiative to purchase artillery ammunition for Ukraine in 2025.
She said this in an interview with Deník N, Radio Prague International reports.
Czech Republic to launch a new initiative for Ukraine: what is known
The working title of the project is reportedly Initiative 2025.
Five Czech companies will take part in it: Czechoslovak Group, STV Group, Omnipol with Ompo Holding, Colt CZ Group SE, and DSS.
They will produce ammunition for Ukraine with money from European donors.
– This is a natural extension of the mechanism that is already in place. In addition, the sooner donors allocate funds, the sooner our companies will sign long-term contracts,” Černohová said.
She also noted that the Czech Ministry of Defense is currently researching what companies will be able to supply to Ukraine next year.
In fact, Prague will become an intermediary between donors – European countries and arms manufacturers.
Which countries supported the project
According to Tomáš Kopeční, the Czech government’s commissioner for the restoration of Ukraine, the project was supported by Denmark, the Netherlands, and Germany.
Negotiations on financing the initiative may begin at the end of this summer.
The details will depend on what will be prioritized for procurement – 155 mm or 152 mm caliber shells or another type of large-caliber ammunition.
