Russia’s losses in Ukraine are three times greater than ours – Syrskyi

The Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said that the Russians are better equipped with resources. They have more tanks, infantry fighting vehicles, soldiers. However, the occupiers suffered even more losses.
He said this in an interview with The Guardian.
Advantages of Russia at the front in technology
According to the military, at the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the Russians had an army of 100,000, which has grown to 520,000, and by the end of 2024, their number should reach 690,000. Ukraine does not publish its figures.
Since 2022, the number of Russian tanks has doubled – from 1,700 to 3,500 units. Artillery systems tripled, and the number of armored personnel carriers increased from 4,500 to 8,900 units.
– As for equipment, the ratio of 1:2 or 1:3 is in their (Russians, – Ed.) favor. The enemy has a significant advantage in forces and means. Therefore, for us, the issue of supply, the issue of quality (technique, – Ed.) is really at the forefront, – said Sirskyi.
It is this advantage of Russia in people and equipment that is evident on the battlefield, the publication emphasizes.
In February 2024, Syrskyi became the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces, replacing Valerii Zaluzhnyi. One of Sirskyi’s first orders was the withdrawal of troops from Avdiivka. The retreat coincided with a six-month hiatus in US aid.
Recently, Ukraine began to receive aid from its partners, but the occupiers continue to mercilessly bombard the Ukrainian East with guided aerial bombs.
Syrskyi is sure that the Ukrainians can stop the Russian offensive – and here everything depends on our soldiers and officers.
Losses of the Russian Federation in Ukraine
Russia is making progress at the front at the cost of staggering human losses. According to Oleksandr Syrskyi, Russia’s losses in the war are three times greater than Ukraine’s losses, and in some directions – even more.
– Their number of dead is much higher, – noted the commander-in-chief.
In February 2024, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that since 2022, Ukraine’s losses in the war amounted to 31,000 servicemen. Syrskyi refused to clarify this figure, stressing that this topic is sensitive, and Moscow can use it in its propaganda.
According to Syrskyi, Russian commanders sacrifice a huge amount of infantry in order to gain 100-200 meters of territory. And it is very important for Ukraine to preserve the lives of its soldiers.
– We are not defending the ruins to the death, – said Syrskyi, emphasizing that he does not want to achieve goals at any cost or throw his people into senseless meat assaults.
In his opinion, sometimes it is better to move to more advantageous positions.
