The Ukrainian long-range rocket-drone Palyanitsa costs less than a million dollars, which is much cheaper than analogues.
This was stated by the Minister of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, Mykhailo Fedorov, in an interview with the Associated Press.
The Palyanytsia drone rocket costs less than $1 million
The publication notes that the newest missile was named after the variety of Ukrainian bread – Palyanitsa. It’s a difficult word for Russians to pronounce correctly, so it was used to expose suspected spies at the start of a full-scale war.
The missile was created out of necessity, as Russia has dominated the air since the start of a full-scale war.
Ukraine has repeatedly faced restrictions on the use of Western long-range missiles for strikes on the territory of Russia, but Palyanitsa was designed, in particular, to overcome these restrictions.
On the Independence Day of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed the existence of the Palanytsia missile , calling it a new class of weapon.
Defense Minister Rustem Umerov promised on Monday, August 26, after a large-scale Russian shelling of Ukrainian energy infrastructure, that weapons would be used in response to this attack.
As the Associated Press notes, the range of the missile is up to 700 km – on a par with the American ATACMS.
The head of the Ministry of Defense Umerov showed a map with various airfields, including Russia’s Savasleyka airbase, adding that the Palanytsia drone missile can reach at least 20 Russian airfields.
Fedorov told details about the Palyanitsa drone missile
Minister of Digital Technologies Mykhailo Fedorov noted in an interview with AP that the next step will be the expansion of production.
– I think this will change the rules of the game, because we will be able to strike where Russia does not expect it today, – he said.
The minister declined to specify the range and current supplies, citing security considerations, but noted that he is participating in domestic missile development projects from the end of 2022.
One of the specialists involved in the long-range missile project said that it was a “completely new development, from scratch” that began about 18 months ago.
– This is not a continuation of the old Soviet project, – said the expert on condition of anonymity.
According to him, the rocket has a solid-fuel booster that accelerates it, and then the jet engine is connected.
Fedorov said that each missile costs less than $1 million, which is significantly cheaper than analogues. At the same time, the military is turning to the private sector to further reduce the production cost of Palyanytsia.
Ukraine will have all types of missiles, Fedorov said.
We will remind you that on August 24, on Independence Day, Ukraine used for the first time a completely new class of weapons – the Ukrainian missile-drone Palyanitsa.
