The Army Ammunition Plant in Scranton (a city in Pennsylvania), along with two others in nearby Wilkes-Barre, are said to have increased production from 24,000 units per month to 36,000.

In addition, three new production lines are under development that will allow the Scranton plant to produce even more critical munitions, according to a plant representative.

Richard Hansen, a representative of the commander of the US Ground Forces at the plant in Scranton, said that the plant is currently focused on the production of 155 mm projectiles.

This plant sends shell blanks (finished shells) to Iowa, where they are filled with explosives and fitted with fuses. From there, a lot of ammunition goes to Ukraine.

What is known about the ammunition factory in Pennsylvania

At the beginning of the 20th century, the plant in Pennsylvania was a locomotive repair shop. The US Department of Defense later bought it and turned it into a factory for the production of heavy artillery for the Korean War.

Since 2006, the plant has been managed by General Dynamics under a contract with the US government, which owns the plant.

According to the US government, since the beginning of the full-scale war, the United States has already sent more than 3 million 155 mm artillery shells to Ukraine.

Earlier in August, the White House announced another $125 million military aid package for Ukraine, which includes 155 mm shells.
