The Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court has joined the joint investigation team of Ukraine, Lithuania and Poland in investigating Russia’s crimes. This was announced by Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova.

– For the first time in history, the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court joined the joint investigation team. Exactly a month ago, my colleagues from Lithuania and Poland, with the support of Eurojust, and I created the  JIT to investigate the atrocities of the Russian Federation in our country, – wrote the Prosecutor General on social media.

According to her, this will make the investigation and prosecution of war crimes more effective.

– Today, together with the Prosecutors General of Lithuania and Poland Nida Grunskene and Zbigniew Zobro and the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Karim Khan, they signed a document on the expansion of our Joint Investigation Team (JIT). From now on, the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court is a member of the JIT. Also a member of the group is currently Eurojust, which represents 27 EU member states and 10 other countries, – said Venediktova.

The Prosecutor General said that each member state of the group conducts its own national investigation into Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, as well as a full-fledged independent investigation launched by the ICC Prosecutor’s Office.

– The parties and participants of the JIT will coordinate their actions, jointly plan investigative strategies, as well as promptly and securely exchange information and evidence, – summed up the Prosecutor General of Ukraine.
