Lend-Lease from the United States, which should facilitate the provision of military assistance to Ukraine to counter a full-scale invasion by Russia, has not yet started to work.
Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council Oleksiy Danilov said this in an interview. He assured that the provision of arms under the lend-lease will take place.
– There is a procedure there. The Lend-Lease has not yet begun. But the very adoption of the law on the Lend-Lease is a very positive decision for us. And the Lend-Lease will happen, the question is when. Here we come back to the fact that everyone’s clock works differently in war. For some people, a day is like a day, but for us, it is a different dimension,” he said.
According to Danilov’s forecasts, the land lease may start operating in July-September this year.
– It could be July or August, it could be September. There are many factors here. You have to understand that the world is not that big. Everybody knows what everybody has in the country: weapons, equipment to make them, ammunition. Today it so happens that there is almost no ammunition of the Soviet model of 122 and 155 calibers left,” the secretary of the National Security and Defence Council.
Commenting on the results of the recent Ramstein-3 meeting of defense ministers of the world in Brussels, Danilov emphasized that if Ukraine were a NATO member, “it will be a completely different conversation, and the configuration of such meetings will change”.
At the same time, he added that under current conditions, we should thank the states that provide assistance, and there are indeed many of them.
– Today, we must thank the countries that help us. There are a lot of them. We do not know about all of them. Many countries are asking us not to publicize the military armaments they are giving us. Time will pass, and we will win. We will thank everyone…There is a clear understanding: no one will defend our country but us. Will they help us with arms? Yes, we will. Will these arms be enough? Weapons are never enough. But in this war, each country has its tasks and vision for itself,” said the Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council.
As you know, on May 9, U.S. President Joe Biden signed the Lend-Lease Act for Ukraine. This is the second time in history that Washington has approved the lend-lease procedure – the first time it happened during World War II.
