There are still 58 orphans and children deprived of parental care in the city of Kherson which has been temporarily seized by Russian troops. They need an urgent evacuation to the safe territory of Ukraine.
This was stated by the Commissioner of the Parliament of Ukraine for Human Rights Lyudmyla Denisova. We are talking about the children of the orphanage.
According to Denisova, all children are less than four years old. They have been hiding in the basement of the church in Kherson for more than a month.
– 58 orphans and children deprived of parental care have been hiding in the basement of the local church for more than a month. Of these, 10 children aged 4 months to 1 year, the other- under 4 years, including children with disabilities who need special care and treatment, – said the ombudsman.
Denisova clarified that a safe place has already been found for these children in the region of Ukraine where there is no active hostilities. There, children will be able to provide the necessary assistance, treatment and care.
The problem is that children need to be evacuated from the temporarily occupied Kherson. In this regard, Denisova called on all concerned people who can help to facilitate the evacuation.
I ask everyone who can help transfer these children to a safe region of Ukraine, not to stay away and take all measures dependent on you to open and operate a humanitarian corridor, so that the child is finally safe, -said the ombudsman.
As of April 14, Lyudmyla Denisova reported that Russian invaders forcibly deported more than 790,000 Ukrainian citizens to Russia, including about 150,000 children.
There is information that Russians illegally place children taken from Ukraine in their families. Russia’s deportation of Ukrainian children is a crime that falls under the definition of human trafficking under international law.
