Due to the criminal actions of the Russian occupiers, an accident occurred at the fifth power unit of the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

According to Energoatom, as a result of the transfer of the fifth power unit of the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP to a hot state, an incident occurred with a leakage of reagents from the first reactor circuit to the second.

Despite these violations, the occupation authorities are in no hurry to switch the unit to a cold shutdown, using the steam generated by the fifth power unit for heating and meeting the plant’s own needs.

Due to the incompetence of the Russian personnel, in particular the shift supervisor of the chemical shop, who lost control over the saturation of the special water treatment filters, the water of the first circuit with a boric acid solution gets into the deaerator of the machine shop, and from there again to all steam generators.

– The actions of the Rashists are absolutely incompetent. Their attempts to take Unit 3 out of repair and heat it up to a hot state in order to bring Unit 5 to a cold shutdown instead is another attempt to continue nuclear blackmail and damage the equipment of another power unit of the nuclear power plant,” said Petro Kotin, President of SE NNEGC Energoatom.

“Such actions of the occupants may lead to the loss of integrity of steam generator tubes, which certainly does not comply with the regulations for the safe operation of the NPP unit.

– By their actions, the invaders are once again jeopardizing the safety of the plant’s operation and causing constant degradation of equipment and the frequency of dangerous failures. And this can lead to an emergency at any time,” added the head of Energoatom.

Accidents at ZNPP

A number of accidents have already occurred at Zaporizhzhia NPP due to violation of license conditions by the occupiers.

On November 14, 2023, a partial blackout occurred due to the incompetence of the Russian invaders and employees of the Russian state corporation Rosatom. ZNPP Unit 6 was de-energized, and diesel generators and safety systems were switched on. The unit remained in this mode for 90 minutes.

Earlier, a hazard was reported at power unit No. 4. As a result of its heating, radioactive coolant (water) leaked from the first to the second circuit, which is a violation of one of the barriers to the spread of radioactive contamination.

A similar situation occurred during an attempt to heat up Unit 6. In addition, the inappropriate decision of the current “managers” of the plant to put it into a hot state caused a significant increase in liquid radioactive waste at the plant site, which poses potential harm to personnel, the public and the environment.
