IRIS-T, sanctions and recovery of Ukraine: details of Shmyhal’s visit to Germany

On September 4, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal is visiting Germany, where negotiations have already taken place with the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier.
– Weapons, finances, sanctions, Russia’s provocations at the ZNРP, our integration into the EU, victory and reconstruction of Ukraine. All this is on the agenda of the discussion with the German allies, – the head of government said about the purpose of the visit.
According to him, in order to win, Ukraine needs even more heavy weapons, in particular the MARS II multiple-launch rocket systems and the Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled howitzers, which were handed over by Germany.
Shmyhal hopes that Germany will also hand over the state-of-the-art air defense system IRIS-T in the fall.
– At the same time, we expect that Germany will become one of the leaders in the development of air defense, – the prime minister emphasized.
He said that he and Steinmeier discussed the Plan for the Recovery of Ukraine, which must be implemented now: repair of critical infrastructure, reconstruction of hospitals, schools and houses.
– In 2023, funds and efforts must be increased tenfold, and we are sure that Germany and the EU will be leaders in this matter. Steinmeier once again assured that Germany will stand side by side with Ukraine in order to ensure our victory, – Denys Shmyhal concluded.
Earlier, the Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany, Svenja Schulze, announced the allocation of another €200 million to Ukraine to help internally displaced people, of whom, according to the UN, there are already about 7 million.
