EU officially launches training mission for the Armed Forces of Ukraine
The European Union has officially launched a training mission for the Ukrainian military. Military training is to be provided to 15 thousand servicemen.
This was reported by the press service of the Czech Presidency of the EU Council.
– The Council of the EU launched the EUMAM military assistance mission to support Ukraine in the ongoing aggressive war unleashed by Russia and to train up to 15 thousand soldiers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, – the statement reads.
The decision will enter into force upon publication in the Official Journal of the EU.

It is about the Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine). This is a special training mission for the Ukrainian military aimed at strengthening the Armed Forces of Ukraine (including the Territorial Defense Forces) to effectively protect our country from Russian aggression.
The mission will work on the territory of the EU member states. To coordinate the trainings, an operational headquarters will be established in Brussels. It was planned to appoint French Vice Admiral Hervé Bléjean as the commander of the mission.
The idea of creating a military mission for Ukraine was put forward by the head of EU diplomacy Josep Borrell. Currently, a number of EU countries are already conducting training for Ukrainian defenders on a bilateral basis.
At the same time, the EU training mission will allow to expand the scale of exercises due to a clear command structure. EUMAM will be open for participation of third countries.
The mandate of the training mission will last two years, during which the EU plans to train about 15 thousand Ukrainian servicemen.
The total cost of the mission was previously estimated by the EU Council at €106.7 million.
The establishment of the mission was agreed by the EU foreign ministers in October. It was noted then that it could start its work in mid-November this year.
