On December 1, amendments to the law on foreign agents, which were approved by Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in July, are to come into force in Russia.

Now “foreign agents” in the Russian Federation will be considered not only “persons or organizations that have received financial support from abroad”, but also those who “are under undefined “influence or pressure” of foreign players”.

According to the amendments to the law, the Ministry of Justice, in particular, will be able to publish personal data and addresses of “foreign agents”.

The UK Ministry of Defence intelligence believes that these innovations will almost certainly create a risk of prosecution of persons included in the list of “foreign agents”.

Therefore, according to British intelligence, the new amendments will further strengthen the repressive powers of the Russian state.

The Ministry of Defence states that the trend, which has been going on since Putin’s return to the presidency in 2012, has intensified sharply after the invasion of Ukraine.

– The Kremlin is likely to be acting proactively to prevent the growth of dissent inside the country as the conflict remains unresolved and increasingly affects the daily lives of Russians, British intelligence said.

The full-scale war in Ukraine continues for the 280th day.
