In the war against Ukraine, Russia is using ammunition manufactured more than 40 years ago.
This was reported by a high-ranking US official on condition of anonymity.
At the same time, he adds, these munitions have very high failure rates when hitting targets.
– In other words, you load ammunition and cross your fingers in the hope that it will explode – the official explains.
According to his forecast, unless Russia turns to foreign suppliers or starts using even older stockpiles, it will burn through its fully usable ammunition by early 2023.
– Judging by the speed with which Russia uses its artillery and missile ammunition, and we take into account the fully operational ones, it is likely that they will be able to do this until the beginning of 2023, – the official said.
By the way, in November, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that the weapons used by the Russian army must be modernized.
