Prigozhin recruits political prisoners from Chechnya for the war in Ukraine – Main Directorate of Intelligence

To replenish the army of mercenaries fighting in Ukraine, the owner of the Wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, has begun recruiting prisoners from the correctional colonies of the Chechen Republic of the Russian Federation. Most of them were convicted on political grounds.
This was reported by the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
According to intelligence data, the process of recruiting prisoners to the ranks of the Wagnerites continues in the colony-settlement No. 3 of the city of Argun, as well as in the correctional colony No. 2 of the village of Chernokozovo.
More than 50 prisoners have already been “mobilized” from both correctional institutions, most of whom were imprisoned on trumped-up charges.
At the same time, the Putin regime is trying to prevent the leakage of information about the recruitment of political prisoners in Chechnya, and relevant work is being done with the employees of the colonies.
In December, the Institute for the Study of War (ISW) reported that the Russian authorities have begun to more actively send officials from Chechnya to the occupied territories of Ukraine.
His analysts do not rule out that Chechen officials seek to be integrated into the occupation structures in order to consolidate administrative control.
