The European Commission called a step that will accelerate the confiscation of Russian assets

The introduction of criminal liability for the circumvention of sanctions against the Russian Federation will help speed up the process of confiscation of Russian assets, which will be directed to the restoration of Ukraine.
Christian Wiegand, the official representative of the European Commission on justice, announced this during the briefing.
– On December 2, the European Commission published a proposal to introduce criminal liability in the EU for circumventing sanctions against Russia. We have repeatedly emphasized that criminalizing activities such as sanctions evasion will help confiscate the assets that people are trying to hide. This is also part of our efforts to raise funds for the recovery of Ukraine, – Wiegand said.
In addition, the European Commission supports the idea of Estonia to begin seizing Russian financial assets without waiting for other EU countries.
It should be noted that at the beginning of December, the EC put forward a proposal to add violations of EU sanctions to the list of crimes against the European Union.
Persons who violate EU sanctions may end up behind bars, the term of imprisonment will start from 5 years depending on the crime.
And companies can be fined at least 5% of the total turnover during the year.
