The administration of US President Joe Biden warned Russia about his visit to Ukraine shortly before his departure from Washington to “avoid a direct conflict between the two nuclear-armed countries,” the Associated Press reports.

– The White House did not go into details, but the national security adviser to the US president, Jake Sullivan, said that he informed Moscow about Biden’s visit to Kyiv shortly before his departure “for the purpose of de-confliction” to avoid any miscalculations that could lead to a direct conflict between the two nuclear states, – writes the publication.

According to Sullivan, the planning of Biden’s visit to Kyiv took place behind closed doors with a relatively small group of aides.

He said Biden made the final decision on the trip to Ukraine, months in the making, on Friday during a meeting in the Oval Office.
