Sweden is planning to join the so-called tank coalition and will send Ukraine up to 10 Leopard 2 tanks as well as anti-aircraft systems, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Defense Minister Paul Johnson said today.

– Today’s military package also includes additional air defense components. We will continue to help Ukraine win the war,” the Swedish government said in a statement.

According to Der Spiegel, in the morning of February 24, the Swedish authorities did not want to confirm this information, and the country’s Defense Ministry only said that a new package of military aid to Ukraine would be announced in the afternoon. It is about Leopard tanks of the 2A5 and 2A6 types to equip two tank battalions.

The Leopard tanks, which are called Stridsvagn in Sweden, could primarily be used to supplement the tank package that Berlin is currently assembling for Kyiv.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy today confirmed the arrival of the first Leopard 2 tanks from Poland. The head of state made the announcement during a joint press conference with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, who arrived in Kyiv on February 24.
