We can’t let Putin decide which countries to destroy – Austin to Israeli Minister
Countries must unite in opposing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s vision of the world, in which autocrats decide which states can be destroyed.
U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin emphasized this during a joint press conference with Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
The Pentagon chief notes that the countries of the world must urgently help Ukraine in its struggle for freedom.
– Israel is providing the necessary humanitarian support to Ukraine. In addition, I am grateful to Israel for its participation in the contact group on Ukraine’s defense that I am convening.
However, we call on all of our allies and partners to step up at this critical juncture in history,” Lloyd Austin said.
The U.S. Secretary of Defense noted that Iran’s destabilizing actions now pose a threat not only to Israel, but to the world.
– “We are particularly concerned about the strategic partnership between Iran and Russia, which has deepened over the past year,” the Pentagon chief added.
“The result of this cooperation is Russia’s use of Iranian drones to shell Ukraine.
Lloyd Austin emphasizes that in exchange for support, Russia offers Iran unprecedented defense cooperation, including the supply of missiles and air defense systems.
– Iran is gaining important combat experience in Ukraine, which it will later use in the Middle East.
All of this reminds us how high the stakes are of the brutal and unprovoked war that Russia has unleashed against Ukraine,” the US Secretary of Defense warned of the threats.
