Britain will increase defense spending by $6 billion because of the war in Ukraine

The UK government wants to increase defense spending to 2.25% of GDP. In the next two years, they will grow by 5 billion pounds, which is about $6 billion.
This was stated by the country’s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, reports The Telegraph.
As the publication notes, Britain’s defense spending in 2021-2022 amounted to 71.4 billion pounds, and the additional money will allow to increase defense spending to 2.25% of GDP by 2025, for example, in 2020, this figure was 2%.
– The item on increasing the military budget will be reflected in the updated version of the Comprehensive Review of Security, Defense and Foreign Policy of the United Kingdom. It will be published on March 13, – the publication writes.
3 billion pounds will go towards the development of nuclear deterrence forces. Another part of the amount will be used to replenish the stocks of ammunition and weapons that were transferred to Ukraine for protection against the aggressor.
– The document responds to geopolitical threats arising as a result of the Russian Federation’s war against Ukraine and economic coercion on the part of China, – Sunak said.
It will be recalled that the Pentagon has begun a review of its weapons stocks, which indicates that Washington is preparing to increase spending on weapons due to concerns about the impact of Russia’s war against Ukraine on the supply of ammunition.
