Failures in Vuhledar and heavy losses: British intelligence explained why Putin fired Muradov

Рустам Мурадов

The reason for the dismissal of Colonel-General Rustam Muradov from the post of commander of the Eastern Group of Forces (ESG), as reported in Russian social networks, was probably the huge losses in recent months and the failed attempts to seize Vuhledar in the Donetsk region.

This was announced on Twitter by the intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain.

According to their data, Muradov’s operations drew public criticism from various Russian commentators, including the military.

Watching now

– Muradov headed the ESG after a failed attempt to storm Kyiv from the northwest during the first full-scale invasion. This is currently the most senior Russian military officer released in 2023, but others are likely as Russia continues to fail in achieving its goals in Donbas, – according to British intelligence.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin appointed Rustam Muradov as commander of the Eastern Group of Forces in early October 2022.

Prior to that, Muradov commanded Russian troops in the occupied Donbas, and has combat experience gained in Chechnya and Syria.
