Italy intends to supply Ukraine with a missile defense system to help protect against Russian attacks, but first it has to solve technical problems.
This was announced by Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, Reuters reports.
The minister made the statement after the Italian newspaper La Repubblica said that the decision to supply new weapons to Ukraine was postponed until next month due to political tensions, high cost and lack of equipment.
– “There are no brakes… but it takes time because there are technical problems to make the tools work, the military command is working on it,” the report said.
Back in the fall of 2022, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed to Italy and France to provide Ukraine with SAMP-T air defense systems.
On January 8, 2023, the Italian Foreign Minister said that the country is preparing a new aid package for Ukraine and is negotiating with France to send a jointly produced air defense system.
