Biden announces expansion of sanctions against Russia and new aid package for Ukraine

Байден анонсував розширення санкцій проти РФ та новий пакет допомоги Україні

As U.S. President Joe Biden makes a historic visit to Kyiv and meets with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the White House website has posted a message about expanding sanctions against Russia and a new military aid package for Ukraine.

It is noted that Biden came to reaffirm “an unwavering commitment to Ukraine’s democracy, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.”

– When Putin launched his invasion almost a year ago, he believed that Ukraine was weak and the West was divided. He thought he could outlast us. But he was deeply mistaken. Today in Kyiv, I’m meeting with President Zelenskyy and his team for an extended discussion about our support for Ukraine,” he said in a statement on February 20.

According to published information, the American president will announce another shipment of critical equipment, which will include

This aid package should help protect the Ukrainian people from aerial bombardment.

In addition, additional sanctions are to be announced later this week against Russian elites and companies and those who support its war machine.

It is emphasized that Western allies are providing Ukraine with unprecedented military, economic and humanitarian support – and this support will continue.

– I also look forward to traveling to Poland to meet with President Duda and the leaders of our allies to the east, and to offer remarks on how the United States will continue to unite the world in support of the people of Ukraine and the core values that unite us in this world,” Biden said in a statement.

Later, Biden clarified in a commentary to foreign media that Ukraine would receive “billions” in budgetary aid from the United States.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in turn, noted that the results of today’s meeting with Biden would be reflected on the battlefield.
