The EU has agreed on a €2 billion munitions plan for Ukraine.

This was confirmed by Estonian Defense Minister Hanno Pevkur.

– “We have reached a political consensus on sending 1 million rounds of 155 mm ammunition to Ukraine,” he said on the sidelines of a meeting with his EU counterparts in Brussels.

He noted that the ammunition will be delivered within 12 months and added that there are “many, many” details to be resolved, but “the most important thing is that we complete these negotiations, and this shows me one thing: if there is a will, there is a way.”

At the same time, European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell noted that the plan will be implemented in three areas.

Firstly, 1 billion euros will be allocated from the European Peace Fund to compensate for the supplies of member states; secondly, the same amount will be allocated for joint purchases of ammunition; and thirdly, EU states will place orders to increase the production capacity of defense plants.

He also said that 18 countries have joined the European Defense Agency’s project to collect and place orders in the industry.

As a reminder, the main topic of today’s EU Foreign Affairs Council was the speedy delivery of artillery ammunition to Ukraine. In turn, during the meeting, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba called for more artillery ammunition to be provided to Kyiv “as soon as possible.”

In early March, Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov sent a letter to his EU counterparts, in which he said that Ukraine needed more ammunition and artillery shells provided by the EU.

The full-scale war in Ukraine has been going on for 390 days. You can follow the situation in the cities on the interactive map of hostilities in Ukraine and the map of air alerts in Ukraine.
