Romania will participate in the training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighter jets, and a regional training centre will be set up in the country.
This statement was made by President Klaus Iohanni in his speech during the celebrations on the occasion of the Romanian Navy Day.
– “We will participate in the training of the Ukrainian military within the framework of the European Union’s military assistance. We will host the future regional training centre for F-16 pilots, a centre that will serve Romanian, allied and Ukrainian pilots equally,” the head of state said.
According to Iohannis, Romania, along with other NATO allies, will continue to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian occupiers.
– “We will continue to coordinate within the European Union to effectively address the many consequences of the war. We will continue to support Kyiv’s European course and advocate for significant European assistance to Ukraine at all levels,” the President added.
As a reminder, Michael Bohnert, a military engineer and researcher at the Rand think tank, suggested that F-16 fighter jets in Ukraine could harm Russian troops even by their mere presence.
Thus, Western aircraft can force the aggressor to spend resources that it cannot replenish, because the Russians will be forced to take their helicopters into the sky for additional flights.
