The exchange of prisoners did not stop. Sometimes it happens on the battlefield – Zelenskyy
Despite the fact that the last public exchange of prisoners of war between Ukraine and the Russian Federation took place back in August, in fact they did not stop, as it often happens on the battlefield.
This was announced by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
– We fight for each of our people. We are replenishing our exchange fund. Very often we exchange not so loudly, not so publicly. I will say frankly, we exchange simply on the battlefield. When we have 10 of their prisoners, and they have a few of our guys – we exchange. It happens in different ways, – he emphasized.
According to him, such exchanges are not only global, but also local.
– The commanders have orders for all this, they know what to do, – added Zelenskyy.
The head of state noted that he understands the pain of native servicemen who are waiting for their release from captivity, therefore he assured that Ukraine will fight for each and every one of the defenders.
According to him, over the past six months, it was possible to return about 100 servicemen from Russian captivity, and since the beginning of the full-scale invasion – several thousand, and several thousand more are waiting for exchange.
On August 7, another 22 Ukrainian defenders were returned from Russian captivity . According to the latest data, 4,337 Ukrainians are in captivity, including 3,574 military personnel.
