Russian invaders captured the sailors of the SMARTA cargo ship and took them away in an unknown direction.
This was announced by Ukrainian Ombudsman Lyudmyla Denisova.
On the territory of the Mariupol Sea Commercial Port, members of the crew of the SMARTA ship flying the Liberian flag and the wife of the ship’s captain, who was on board at the time, were captured and taken away in an unknown direction by the Russian military, – Denisova said.
She added that according to some reports, they were taken in the direction of the temporarily occupied Donetsk.
18 people are citizens of Ukraine, 1 is a citizen of Egypt.
There’s no communication with the crew and the captain’s wife. Before capturing the sailors, Russian troops fired on the ship, – Denisova said.
She said that the dry cargo arrived in the port of Mariupol on February 21 and had to go to Turkey.
– However, due to active Russian military aggression, he did not receive permission to go to sea and remained moored at the 18th berth of the port of Mariupol, – said Lyudmyla Denisova.
