Oleh Kutsyn, commander of the Carpathian Sich Battalion, was killed in the battles near Izium
During the fighting at the front, the founder and leader of the Freedom Legion, commander of the Carpathian Sich Battalion Oleh Kutsyn was killed. This was announced by former People’s Deputy Oleh Tyagnybok on Sunday, June 19.
According to him, Kutsyn died during the fighting in the Izium direction.
Khrystyna Ravliuk, a spokeswoman for the Svoboda party, confirmed his death in a comment to Espresso. She noted that it happened “from a direct hit during the meeting.”
Oleh Kutsyn was 56 years old. Since 2015, he has headed the Freedom Legion, a combatant association of members of the Freedom Union. He was a member of the political council of the All-Ukrainian Union and headed the Transcarpathian regional party organization.
Kutsyn took part in the 2014 war in eastern Ukraine. Then he initiated the creation of a volunteer assault company Carpathian Sich. In 2015, the unit became part of the 93rd mechanized brigade of the Armed Forces.
After the full-scale Russian invasion on February 24, 2022, the Carpathian Sich defended Kyiv, holding positions in Irpen, Romanivka and the Brovary direction. Now the unit is in the Izyum direction.
