Ukraine calls on the states of the Caspian region to force the Russian Federation to stop carrying out airstrikes against Ukraine from this region.

This is stated in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. It is noted that Russia does not comply with its international legal obligations, in particular the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea.

– Clause 2 of Article 3 of the convention provides for “the use of the Caspian Sea for peaceful purposes, its transformation into a zone of peace, good neighborliness and cooperation, the resolution of all issues related to the Caspian Sea by peaceful means,” the statement reads.

Ukrainian diplomats emphasized that missile strikes by Russia against civilian infrastructure objects of Ukrainian cities from the Caspian region are a gross violation of the convention.

– We call on the countries participating in the convention to encourage Russia to stop using the waters of the Caspian Sea for the continuation of armed aggression against Ukraine, as well as to prevent the further militarization of the region and its involvement in an armed conflict, – urged the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It should be noted that on June 29, the Sixth Caspian Summit was held in Turkmenistan with the participation of the heads of Azerbaijan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and the Russian Federation.
