Ambassador of Poland: NATO military assistance to Ukraine is like Schrödinger’s cat

Ambassador of Poland to NATO Tomasz Szatkowski said that the deployment of Patriot air defense systems in Ukraine should be agreed between Berlin and Kyiv. At the same time, Warsaw can also participate in consultations.
The ambassador said this on the air of Polish Radio.
On November 20, German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht offered support to Poland, in particular Patriot air defense systems and Eurofighter jets that will protect Polish airspace.
Polish Defense Minister Mariusz Blaszczak said that he was pleased to accept this offer, and then offered to transfer Patriot SAMs to Ukraine, as they would be more effective in protecting Polish and Ukrainian skies.
Germany was critical of this proposal, saying that the decision to transfer the systems to Ukraine should be agreed by NATO.
Later, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the decision on the deployment of missiles should be made by Germany.
– It was a surprise to assume that NATO would decide whether Germany should provide weapons to Ukraine. Germany is in favour of an approach where NATO is not formally involved in the decision-making process related to support for Ukraine,” said Tomasz Szatkowski.
He also dismissed rumors that there is allegedly an agreement between NATO members prohibiting the transfer of heavy weapons to Ukraine.
– This is absolutely not true. There were no such agreements in NATO, said Tomasz Szatkowski.
According to the Ambassador of Poland, at the political level the situation regarding the support of Ukraine is similar to Schrödinger’s cat.
– On the one hand, there is a discussion, which is encouraged by the Secretary General, and on the other hand there is a veto of some countries, opposition, reluctance, – said Tomasz Szatkowski.
He also added that the attitude of some countries to support Ukraine is changing for the better.
