Ukraine asks to provide the Mamba air defense system: characteristics and capabilities
Ukraine requests and expects the provision of the French Mamba air defense system. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said this in an interview with a foreign TV channel.
– We need anti-missile defense to protect our infrastructure and people’s lives. These are the Patriot, IRIS-T and Crotale systems. Now we are asking and expecting help from the French Mamba system, which will help fight against Iranian drones and Russian missiles, – the prime minister notes.
He assures that Ukraine is grateful to France for supplying the Crotale system and CAESAR howitzers, which work on the battlefield and help protect freedom.
Сharacteristics of the Mamba air defense system
The Mamba surface-to-air air defense system of the medium range is operated by about 100 aviators. It is a sophisticated weapon system that can provide protection in the sky for the benefit of forces operating in the area of coverage.
According to the French General Staff, the system is connected and integrated through a tactical data link with the defense system of Romania and NATO.
This helps to increase efficiency, meet the needs of NATO’s integrated air and missile defense.
The Mamba system can track 100 trajectories and hit 10 of them simultaneously, with up to 48 missiles ready to fire. This is the only European system designed to counter ballistic missiles.
The Aster 30 missile used in the system was developed by MBDA. It can hit aircraft at a distance of up to 120 km and ballistic missiles at a distance of 30 km.
According to the French Ministry of the Armed Forces, the Defense Control Center consists of two machines, allows to control surface-to-air systems and coordinate the use of other air assets of the army, namely artillery, helicopters and drones.
