European Parliament recognized Holodomor as genocide of Ukrainians

The European Parliament voted for the resolution on the recognition of the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as genocide of the Ukrainian people.
The resolution was supported by 507 deputies, 12 were against.
The adopted resolution expresses solidarity with the people of Ukraine and honors the memory of millions of people who died as a result of deliberate actions of the Stalinist regime to organize artificial famine.
– The European Parliament… recognises the Holodomor, the artificial famine of 1932-1933 in Ukraine, which was caused by the deliberate actions of the Soviet regime, as genocide against the people of Ukraine.
Strongly condemns such actions of the totalitarian Soviet regime, which led to the death of millions of Ukrainians, and significantly undermined the foundations of Ukrainian society, – the document writes.
The resolution also calls on all countries, especially Russia and other countries that became independent after the collapse of the USSR, to open their archives on the artificial famine of 1932-1933 in Ukraine.
The European Parliament called on EU member states and third countries to promote awareness of these events, as well as of other crimes committed by the Soviet regime, by introducing historical knowledge about them into educational and research programmes, in order to prevent the recurrence of similar tragedies in the future.
MEPs also condemned that at the time when the ninetieth anniversary of the Holodomor is being commemorated, the Russian Federation continues its aggressive war against Ukraine, violates the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country, seeks to eliminate Ukraine as a nation-state, destroy the identity and culture of its people.
On December 14, the Czech Senate adopted the decision to recognize the Holodomor as genocide. The Upper House of the Czech Parliament strongly condemned the crimes against the Ukrainian people and honored the memory of millions of victims of the Holodomor in Ukraine.
On November 30, the German Bundestag recognized the Holodomor of 1932-1933 as a genocide of the Ukrainian people. The relevant resolution was adopted by a majority vote, without counting, by show of hands.
