After the war, NATO countries can become a party to security guarantees for Ukraine – Stoltenberg

After Ukraine’s victory in the full-scale war unleashed by Russia, it is possible that NATO allies may become a party to agreements on security guarantees for our country.
This was stated today at a press conference by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.
However, he did not specify what these guarantees might be.
– Will there be any international guarantees? It could be a kind of arrangement in which the allies also participate. I will not speculate on how exactly they (security guarantees – Ed.) can be formulated. But I am saying that any arrangements where NATO allies can provide any guarantees to Ukraine are absolutely possible,” Stoltenberg emphasized.
He clarified that guarantees from individual NATO countries could be part of a general solution for Ukraine to guarantee its security against possible new attacks by Russia.
At the same time, Stoltenberg noted that before talking about the future of our country and guarantees, NATO allies must help Ukraine win the war. This is the key task now.
– This is the number one condition. The second main focus should be on the fact that when this war is over, we must ensure that Ukraine will be able to defend itself,” explained the Secretary General of the bloc.
He recalled the events of 2014, when, after the seizure of Ukrainian Crimea, Russian troops invaded Donbas, and in 2022 the Kremlin authorized a second, this time a full-scale invasion.
Stoltenberg clarified that NATO should strengthen Ukraine by providing support, training for Ukrainian soldiers, and helping to transition weapons from Soviet models to modern ones so that our country “can withstand further aggression.
– This is the most important thing to secure the future of Ukraine, to ensure that they have a strong armed forces after the war, after some kind of peace agreement is reached to prevent a third major attack on Ukraine,” Stoltenberg said.
Recently, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine wants to join NATO as it is the best guarantee of security. According to the head of state, after the victory, our country will be able to join the North Atlantic bloc.
