The EU has almost exhausted the possibilities for new sanctions against Russia – Borrell

The European Union has almost exhausted its sanctions potential against Russia, but now it can focus on military support for Ukraine.
This opinion was expressed by the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, in an interview with Euractiv.
– From the point of view of sanctions, there is nothing more to do, but we can continue to increase financial and military support. It would be surprising if there were many more options left a year after the invasion began. We acted step by step, gradually – perhaps sometimes too gradually – the diplomat stressed.
At the same time, he noted that now Ukraine needs not only sanctions against Russia.
– Ukraine needs a lot of money to keep equipment in working condition, a state at war has many financial needs – this will require a lot of effort on our part, so sanctions and military support are not all, – Borrell believes.
Earlier, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that it is impossible to ease the sanctions pressure on Russia while the war in Ukraine continues, on the contrary, the EU should start preparing the 11th package as soon as possible.
They recalled that the 10th package, adopted on February 24, 2023, did not include a number of important elements that Ukraine insisted on: nuclear energy, in particular restrictions on the activities of Rosatom, IT technologies, the sale of diamonds and maritime logistics.
