Ukrainian intelligence has not yet observed the deployment of Russian tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.
Andriy Chernyak, a representative of the Defence Intelligence of Ukraine, said this in an interview with Ukrinform.
He explained that the Kremlin’s statements about nuclear weapons are another episode of blackmail by the Russian Federation, an old tactic used by the Soviet regime during the Cold War.
– “As of now, no real actions have been taken to deploy tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus,” Cherniak emphasized.
As for the temporarily occupied Crimea, the aggressor keeps nuclear weapons carriers there: ships, submarines, aircraft, and ground-based systems.
According to Cherniak, the Russians have the potential to use nuclear warheads. However, the intelligence community doubts that the occupiers will take such a step.
– “It is doubtful that the aggressor will use it, as such a scenario will not lead to a victory over Ukraine, but will mean a disaster for Russia itself,” he explained.
As you know, on March 25, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin announced plans to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus. According to him, the construction of a weapons storage facility will be completed in this country by July 1.
The dictator’s statement outraged the international community. In particular, the European Union is ready to impose new sanctions in response to the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus.
