NATO leaders agree on major new defence plans: Stoltenberg outlines details

The leaders of the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation have agreed new major defence plans at their summit in Vilnius, reflecting the need to combat threats such as Russia and terrorism.
This was announced by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on Tuesday, 11 July.
According to him, NATO Allies have approved “the most comprehensive defence plans since the Cold War to address the two key threats we face: Russia and terrorism”.
– According to the new plans, NATO aims to deploy 300,000 troops on high alert, including naval and air forces, he stressed.
According to Stoltenberg, in order to implement the defence plans, NATO leaders also approved a new action plan to increase defence production and committed to spending at least 2% of GDP per year on defence.
Stoltenberg also said that NATO had removed the Membership Action Plan from its requirements for Ukraine. The bloc will invite Ukraine when allies agree and conditions allow.
