The NATO summit in Vilnius showed how Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine set back the goals for which, according to the Kremlin, the war was launched.

This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Analysts note that the Kremlin has repeated throughout the war that its goal is to prevent NATO expansion and even more so to curtail previous rounds of alliance expansion and push NATO away from Russia’s borders.

– The lack of general resonance in the Russian information space regarding the events at the NATO summit, as well as Finland’s accession to NATO and Turkey’s agreement to send a protocol on Sweden’s accession, most likely indicates that the Kremlin has realized these defeats and does not want to mention them, – it is said in the message.

ISW notes that many Russian sources reported on the NATO summit in an unbiased and muted manner, which “doesn’t match the massive defeat the summit actually inflicted on Russia’s pre-war goals.”

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the results of the summit removed all ambiguities regarding whether Ukraine will join NATO.
