Russia is aiming for a long war, we must be prepared – British Chief of the General Staff

The Russian Federation spends about one-third of its spending on defence and the war against Ukraine, so the UK should be prepared for the possible consequences.
This was stated in a statement by the Chief of the UK General Staff, Patrick Sanders.
He noted that after the invasion of Ukraine, Russia is becoming increasingly isolated, and the world is tired of the Kremlin’s disinformation narrative. According to him, the war demonstrated Ukraine’s defiance, NATO’s unity and became the most powerful catalyst for change, which will be evident in 2021.
Sanders also reminded that the UK provides Ukrainians with military equipment and other support.
– However, there is no room for complacency. The hard but persistent Ukrainian counter-offensive continues, and we must ensure that Ukraine’s bravery, sacrifice and skill are matched by our continued collective commitment,” said Patrick Sanders.
He noted that the Russian government currently allocates about a third of its spending to defence, which indicates that the Kremlin is preparing for a prolonged war against Ukraine. In view of this fact, the commander believes that the UK should be prepared for all the consequences.
As a reminder, Ukraine will receive Scimitar Mk2 armoured reconnaissance vehicles from the UK after they have been prepared by specialists from the German concern Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL).
The UK is also planning to provide loan guarantees worth £192 million (€225 million) to strengthen Ukraine’s energy security. The aid should free Ukraine from nuclear services and nuclear fuel from Russia.
