Russia wants to oblige Wagnerians in CAR to sign a contract with the Defense Ministry – WP
Officials of the Central African Republic are demanding that the militants of the Wagner private military company sign a contract with the Russian Ministry of Defense so that Russian President Vladimir Putin can continue to control the PMC fighters.
According to foreign correspondents, CAR President Faustin-Arcange Touadera said that, allegedly by agreement with the Russian authorities, about a thousand Wagner PMC fighters would remain in the Central African Republic.
They explain this by the fact that it is allegedly “necessary to guarantee security.” However, journalists assume that the Russian Federation and dictator Putin want to continue to maintain control over the operations of Wagner’s militants in South Africa.
At the same time, the African leader confirmed the visit of Russian Deputy Defense Minister Yunus-Bek Yevkurov. According to the CAR president, the visit was long planned because Moscow and Bangui cooperate in the defense sector at the state level.
Some officials from the CAR and Western countries told The Washington Post that Yevkurov told Tuader about the “future” of Wagner’s PMC fighters in the republic, that these fighters would be subordinated to the Russian Defense Ministry.
This information was confirmed by the adviser to the president of the Central African Republic, Fidel Guandjika. He noted that if Wagner’s representatives refuse to obey the Russian Defense Ministry, they will have no choice but to leave the country.
According to foreign journalists, the Russian delegation visited Mali for a similar purpose, where Wagner’s militants were also present.
