Agriculture Minister Florin Barbou said the agreement covers 13 farmers’ demands, with further discussions to find a compromise on the remaining conditions.

The government has pledged to fully subsidize all agricultural excise taxes by 2026 and immediately implement provisions on subsidized interest loans.

However, the agreement does not mean an immediate end to the protests, as their duration may be affected by the upcoming negotiations with the transporters, which will last until Thursday, said one of the representatives of the farmers, Marius Miku.

He added that it is important for the government to grant permission to deviate from the mandatory rules of crop rotation and 4% fallow land in each farm by January 31.

In addition, the government accepted requests for compensation for losses caused by imports from Ukraine. The measures include clear labeling of grain and other goods, as well as electronic monitoring of seals using GPS in the port of Constanta.

Revolt of Romanian farmers

These days, Romanian farmers began to block checkpoints on the Ukrainian border . For several hours a day, they blocked the movement of freight transport suspended at the Siret and Vikovu-de-Sous checkpoints.

Other types of transport, as well as pedestrians, at both checkpoints are processed according to the established procedure for both entry and exit from Ukraine.
