Be worthy of feats for the sake of freedom: Zelenskyy addressed the Europeans in Brussels

Володимир Зеленський

The President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a speech in Brussels on Thursday, March 31, called on Europeans “to be worthy of feats in the name of freedom”.

He noted that few in the West expected our people to be able to resist Russian aggression for so long.

But we stood. We defend our freedom, admiring the world with the courage of Ukrainian heroes, our Armed Forces of Ukraine and all citizens who do not give up, – Zelenskyy said.

He again reminded Western partners of Mariupol, besieged by Russian invaders, which was a large and developed city, but now it is 90% destroyed.

Watching now

Thousands of Mariupol residents died – people are buried right in the city, in the yards of high-rise buildings, or more precisely – what is left of high-rise buildings. Mariupol has been under complete blockade for more than three weeks. Russia has closed all entrances to the city, blocked access from the sea. There is nothing there – no food, no water, no medicine. There is no life, – the president emphasized.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy clarifies that every day the authorities try to do everything possible to open a humanitarian corridor from Mariupol and manage to save civilians who remain in the city – women, children, the elderly – but the Russians do not release people and do not allow to deliver humanitarian aid into the city.

Today, it is the scariest place in Europe. There is hell. A catastrophe that everyone knows about, the whole world. But no one is determined enough to stop the catastrophe in this city and other cities of our state, – the President said.

He notes that there are two worlds: the world of defenders of Mariupol, who refused to leave the city and are fighting for freedom, for democracy, without hope for closed sky or other help, and the world of those who are so accustomed to their freedom that they do not notice what it is worth, and think only about how much money they will lose from refusing to work in the Russian market.

Let’ all in Europe be worthy of the feats that Ukrainians perform in the war for freedom, free Europe and against tyranny – against Russia. We appreciate your support. Belgium was one of the first to help us, and we will never forget it. You have given shelter to our citizens. But you, as the heart of Europe, can inspire other Europeans to expel the occupiers and restore the precious peace, – the President of Ukraine summed up.

He stresses that everyone in Europe knows what they can do to help: weapons, sanctions, EU membership – and soon the future will thank you.
