Budanov on the war in Ukraine: If the world swallows Putin’s aggression, it will happen again

If the world does not respond decisively to the Kremlin’s full-scale aggression against Ukraine now, it will happen again.
Major-general Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, said this in a commentary to the British BBC.
He noted that the war in Ukraine destroys the established systems of both political and military security in the world.
– This is a war of aggression in the heart of Europe, which completely destroys the systems of political and military security. If the world swallows Putin’s aggression and does not offer a radical solution, it will be repeated again and again, Budanov said.
The head of the Ukrainian intelligence service also expressed the opinion that NATO attempts to avoid confrontation with Putin’s Russia bear greater risks than a possible escalation between the Alliance and Russia.
– The risk of refraining from confrontation with Putin’s Russia and the delay in providing Ukraine with powerful weapons is much worse for NATO than the risk of escalation,” Budanov said.
The BBC reminds that Russian troops suffered a serious defeat near Kyiv, after which they retreated. Now the focus of hostilities has shifted to the East and South of Ukraine.
The agency also notes that the war in Ukraine has brought major states with nuclear arsenals closer to a potential confrontation than at any time since the Cold War.
