This was announced by Ombudsman for Human Rights in Ukraine, Liudmyla Denisova.
According to her, this act of Russian nuclear terrorism could be an environmental disaster for both Ukraine and Europe. At the same time, Liudmyla Denisova assured, that there are no violations of the conditions of safe operation of Khmelnytskyi NPP power units now.
Radiation, firefighting- and environmental conditions are within the norm. The territory of Khmelnytskyi NPP is under heighten protection.
Liudmyla Denisova also noted that Russia’s actions in Ukraine grossly violate the requirements of Article 56 of the 1977 Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions and other acts regulating international obligations in the nuclear field.
She called on international partners and the IAEA to immediately take all possible measures to end Russian hostilities around Ukrainian nuclear power plants and to stop nuclear terrorism in Ukraine.
